Mary Fant Donnan

With a background in community economic development, philanthropy, and education, Mary Fant Donnan became the Executive Director of The Alleghany Foundation in 2011. Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Davidson College and a Masters degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Adelaide in South Australia. She and her husband, Bob, a sports photographer based in the Alleghany Highlands, have three children whose school, sports, and musical activities keep them hopping. While family time certainly comes first, Mary admits to looking for opportunities to indulge in her own gardening or cooking pursuits whenever she can.

Daniel joined the Alleghany Foundation for the Foundation’s first-ever fellowship position in July 2020 after receiving a B.S. in Sustainable Biomaterials from Virginia Tech. During his time at Virginia Tech, Daniel worked on a variety of community development projects focused on topics ranging from agricultural extension in Alleghany County to increasing access to drinking water for rural villagers in India. Daniel also served as an intern at The Alleghany Foundation in the Summer of 2019. A native of Virginia, Daniel is excited to work with local nonprofits and other community partners to fulfill the Foundation’s vision of a more civically engaged and prosperous region.
